A refresher day on Hot Limes for Mono Masonry
Mono Masonry described a training day provided at their yard on Friday as 'a Great day with Mark Womersley from WOMERSLEY'S LIMITED talking all things lime! A perfect refresher for our experienced workers, and a great insight into stone conservation for our younger team members'.
During the day we looked at the wide range of lime mortars now available and reminded ourselves of the need to use the correct strength of lime for the type of stone or brickwork, the degree of exposure of the building, its location and the time of year. We made feebly hydraulic hot lime mixes, mimicking many original mortars, and did some stone repair using roman stucco.
The hot lime mortar used was composed of 1 part Calbux 90, 1 ½ parts Nosterfield and 2 parts Leighton Buzzard sand and ½ part crushed brick dust. The roman stucco comprised of Prompt Guiting Stone Dust and Waddington Fell Fine sand
