Ironstone Bonding Coat

A ready mixed natural hydraulic lime render with a coarse texture suitable as a bonding / slurry coat. Manufactured in partnership with Heidelberg Materials Socli.

Ironstone Bonding Coat is a dry ready mixed lime render designed for challenging backgrounds as a coarse bonding coat. Suitable for both internal and external backgrounds.

If masonry walls are very smooth or highly porous, then a standard lime base coat may have difficulty sticking to the surface. Ironstone Bonding coat will prepare them ready for the next coat of lime plaster or lime render.

Benefits:

  • Breathable, durable, sustainable and natural
  • Features the feel of a modern render
  • Enhanced workability
  • Extended working and finishing time
  • Promotes even curing for an improved bond

Manufactured using 100% pure Heidelberg Materials high performance Natural Hydraulic Lime, natural sands, and appropriate conservation additives to create a high-performance render. Enhanced plasticity supports a decreased likelihood of slump and improved adhesion. A long open time makes this render straightforward to apply, level and finish.

Ironstone Bonding Coat should be used as part of a multi-coat render application, preferable in conjunction with at least one coat of Ironstone Basecoat on top of the bonding coat.

A 25kg bag yields approximately 15litres of render and covers 2.8m2 at 5mm.
Do not use in temperatures below 5C or above 30C. Whilst curing protect from adverse environmental conditions including frost, rain, direct sunlight and drying winds.

Surface Preparation:

Remove dust, surface contaminants and loose or crumbly material. Ensure Masonry is not waterproofed or painted.

Application:

Mix with clean water approximately 4-5 litres of water to each 25 kg of Bonding Coat.

Please read the datasheet for further advice on mixing and quenching. Do not add anything other than clean water.

Ironstone Bonding coat is best thrown on or sprayed on, it can also be trowelled on and then stippled with a stiff bristle brush. Apply approximately 3 to 5mm thick leaving the surface rough and heavily textured.

Further Coats:

Ironstone Basecoat followed by Ironstone render or Ironstone plaster topcoat.
